Cloudflare Launches NET Dollar Stablecoin for AI Agent Micropayments
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince unveiled the NET Dollar, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin designed to facilitate micropayments for autonomous AI systems. The stablecoin aims to serve as the payment infrastructure for AI agents handling tasks like flight bookings, grocery orders, and calendar management without human intervention.
"The Internet's next business model will be powered by pay-per-use, fractional payments, and microtransactions," Prince stated, signaling a shift from traditional ad-based revenue models. NET Dollar leverages Cloudflare's global network to enable instant transactions, addressing the limitations of legacy financial systems built for human-paced interactions.
The MOVE comes as AI agents increasingly require payment rails capable of processing millions of automated microtransactions—a need unmet by conventional methods like wire transfers or credit cards. Cloudflare's solution promises internet-speed settlements for the emerging "agentic web."
